Brent Skiver, DO
Dr. Brent Skiver is a native North Carolinian that has been serving the Asheville and Greater Western North Carolina community since 2019 when he joined Dr. Michael Messino in practice. Dr. Skiver is passionate about providing his patients with excellent and thorough care, and he truly enjoys walking alongside his patients and their loved ones as they navigate the complexity of a cancer diagnosis. Dr. Skiver graduated summa cum laude from his undergraduate studies and with honors from medical school. After finishing his internal medicine residency, he practiced as a hospitalist in Washington, DC, which solidified his interests in oncology as he collaborated with oncologists to take care of patients admitted to the hospital. He then returned to his hometown of Winston-Salem to complete fellowship training at Wake Forest University. After growing up spending many vacations in the Blue Ridge mountains, he is delighted to now live in Asheville and practice in Western North Carolina.
Dr. Skiver and his wife have four children and enjoy being outside and exploring the mountains together through all four seasons – from hiking to running to skiing. He has an active interest in medical missions, particularly from an oncological perspective. Dr. Skiver has been on numerous medical mission trips to resource limited parts of the world, including a month in Malawi working at an oncology clinic.
